The Zen of cooking in ELDO’s kitchen… meals should be flavorful, reasonably healthy, economical, and most of all comforting. Large grocery stores are great sources for those few staple items found in ELDO’s kitchen. The inventory is fluid and dynamic as items rotate in and out of the micro-pantry. Grits, peanut butter, bread, tortillas, olives, pickles, ramen, tomato sauce, chocolate spreads, honey, crackers, a few spices, and some ever changing miscellaneous oddities that randomly catch our attention. Always in stock are all the fixings needed for daily hand ground and pressed fresh hot coffee. Fresh foods and produce are picked up daily from small local markets and roadside stands. ELDO’s 12 volt mini mini mini refrigerator is about the size of a shoe box. Therefore, ELDO’s Fundamental Philosophy of Responsibility and Economy dictates all fresh foods are consumed before buying more.
Update: After 6 months of non use, we gave away Eldo’s mini mini mini fridge while in Ireland. Our conclusion is that when eating super fresh, there is little to no need for refrigeration. This means that we don’t use a coller, ice, or mechanical cooling. This was an exciting and liberating discovery. Likewse, we decided not to replace Rado’s malfunctioning refrigerator either. So, upon return to USA, we are going to fill the empty Rado fridge spot with more batteries and the workings of a newly engineered solar charging system. Stay tuned…
Update 2: After reading Dr. Perlmutters “Grain Brain” book, we have gone gluten free. That means upon return to Eldo, we will clean out and restock her pantry. We look forward to sharing this exciting lifestyle change with you.
